Buterin is the Ethereum founder. The story is told that when he wrote the Ethereum white paper he was not expecting anything big from it. Buterin actually perceived that it will dismissed by crypto gurus and disregarded in the long run. However, things happened to the contrary and his thoughts was instead appreciated and the rest was history.

Lately Buterin the founder of Ethereum has been working on proof-of-stake and sharding protocols- and this is what the Ethereum research community has been focusing on more than anything else at this time. They are also working on how transaction fee algorithms can be improved to cut fees down as well.
