As an open-source cryptocurrency, Monero bases its platform on both on autonomy and privacy. Monero’s platform has a public listing wherein users can inititate and produce transactions but in the process records transactions as newer blocks are being formed and thus creating a process called mining.
Mining Monero requires less power and less heat is generated, so your mining rig should have a longer lifetime compared to mining some of the other Cryptocurrencies. It is easier for the hobbyist miner to start mining this coin, due to a recent alogorithm change.
